McMaster Glaucoma Fellowship

The McMaster Glaucoma Fellowship will allow clinical fellows to:

  1. Acquire broad experience in the management of patients with all types of glaucoma in
    our large tertiary referral ophthalmology clinic.
  2. Gain expertise in the fundamentals of diagnostic testing (VF, OCT, UBM, Anterior
    Segment OCT), clinical examination, and delivery of expertise via Telehealth.
  3. Acquire expertise in all modalities of therapy, including:
    • Medical therapy
    • Laser trabeculoplasty – glaucoma lasers (SLT, YAG, Argon, diode)
    • Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) – (iStent, Hydrus, KDB, GATT, XEN,
      Preserflo)
    • Trabeculectomy and its revisions including bleb needling.
    • Tube shunts and its augmentations
    • Cyclodestructive procedures
    • Develop proficiency in compl
  4. Develop proficiency in complex cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma, including
    small pupils, zonular dehiscence, post-trabeculectomy and combined surgeries.
  5. Gain extensive experience with complex glaucoma cases that require co-management
    with other subspecialties including:
    • Pediatric glaucoma
    • Secondary glaucoma in patients with corneal grafts
    • Uveitic and steroid-induced glaucoma
    • Neovascular glaucoma
  6. Have the opportunity to conduct and participate in cutting-edge research, including
    clinical trials, clinical outcomes, public health and epidemiology, and the development
    of novel practice enhancing instruments.
