McMaster Glaucoma Fellowship
The McMaster Glaucoma Fellowship will allow clinical fellows to:
- Acquire broad experience in the management of patients with all types of glaucoma in
our large tertiary referral ophthalmology clinic. - Gain expertise in the fundamentals of diagnostic testing (VF, OCT, UBM, Anterior
Segment OCT), clinical examination, and delivery of expertise via Telehealth. - Acquire expertise in all modalities of therapy, including:
- Medical therapy
- Laser trabeculoplasty – glaucoma lasers (SLT, YAG, Argon, diode)
- Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) – (iStent, Hydrus, KDB, GATT, XEN,
Preserflo) - Trabeculectomy and its revisions including bleb needling.
- Tube shunts and its augmentations
- Cyclodestructive procedures
- Develop proficiency in compl
- Develop proficiency in complex cataract surgery in patients with glaucoma, including
small pupils, zonular dehiscence, post-trabeculectomy and combined surgeries. - Gain extensive experience with complex glaucoma cases that require co-management
with other subspecialties including:- Pediatric glaucoma
- Secondary glaucoma in patients with corneal grafts
- Uveitic and steroid-induced glaucoma
- Neovascular glaucoma
- Have the opportunity to conduct and participate in cutting-edge research, including
clinical trials, clinical outcomes, public health and epidemiology, and the development
of novel practice enhancing instruments.
